Electrical Component Casting
Leitelt Brothers Inc., a family-owned foundry in Chicago, uses a sand casting process to produce high-quality electrical components, including connectors, fittings, and cases. We produce castings to your specifications and can accommodate short, medium and large production runs.
Electrical Component Castings
Castings are an ideal way to create identical complex electrical components. Our green sand casting process allows us to customize molds for each run, whether that is for 1 or 5,000 pieces. We can make electrical fittings as small as 1 ounce or as large as 350 pounds, including:
- Connectors and fittings
- Electrical enclosures
- Switchgear
Casting allows us to create cores and cavities within components, giving us the flexibility to make virtually any type of electrical components or fittings you need. We have an efficient setup process that allows us to offer a fast turnaround on lightweight aluminum and brass electrical equipment castings.
Aluminum Electrical Castings
Aluminum is a good choice for electrical enclosures that must be durable enough to protect the equipment they house. We use the following aluminum alloys in our casting process:
- 535.0 (Almag 35)
- A356.0
- 319.0
We use T6 heat treatments for our A356 aluminum. These increase hardness and the material’s suitability for electrical enclosures.
Brass Electrical Fittings
We can manufacture brass electrical fittings. Brass is ideal for many small electrical connectors and fittings. It has desirable physical properties, including:
- Conductivity: Brass conducts electricity well, making it a good choice for many electrical components.
- Corrosion resistance: Brass electrical fittings won’t corrode, so they retain their conductivity in difficult environmental conditions.
- Non-magnetic: Because it is non-magnetic, brass is ideal for connections in sensitive electrical components such as computers, medical equipment, and scientific instruments.
- Workability: The flexibility of brass makes it ideal for fittings and connectors that require malleability.
Brass also has a natural spark resistance, which is desirable for electrical components. We can create brass electrical component castings for a wide range of industries.
Benefits of Sand Casting for Electrical Component Castings
Sand casting can produce complex shapes quickly and cost-effectively. Simple setup and fast pouring make sand casting significantly faster than many other fabrication methods.
